Testimonial by the Hon. Miguel Ruiz-Cabañas
Ambassador of Mexico in Japan
For the 25th Anniversary Tour to Japan.
July, 2005
Photo: The Ambassador M. Ruiz-Cabañas along with our group receiving the congratulation of Empress Michiko. Tokio (2005) I feel very fortunate to be able to accompany, as Ambassador of Mexico in Japan, the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma during the tour with which we celebrate its first twenty five years of activities. The very existence of the Academia is the proof of the strength in the bonds that unite our two countries as well as an example of the many things we can accomplish together.
For a quarter century now, the Academia, through its efforts, has done a labor that has borne the fruits that we can all see now (or better said, listen to) in the great number of Mexican children, some of them today leading concert artists, that have been brought up as musicians under Professor Kuronuma’s loving care. A small group of them will be in Japan several weeks, playing in the best concert halls for the great Japanese audiences as well as living together with Japanese children whose families will host them for few days in the cities of Oyama and Kakogawa. Some of these host children will, in turn, be their guests since they will join them and perform together on stage.
I am aware that the Japanese define the things that most intimately represent them with the character wa, which signifies harmony. Yuriko Kuronuma is a violinist admired worldwide, a teacher dear to her pupils, a successful author, but above all and deep inside all her activities, a teacher of harmony. I can say this because I have heard her play, because I know the fruits of her labor and above all because I know her personally.
I feel very fortunate, as I said before, for accompanying the Academia: with these few words, with the support of the Embassy, with my recognition as a Mexican, and with my gratitude as a delighted music lover.
