Carlos Lot
Violinist, Assistant Director
Photo: Carlos Lot Synopsis: Born in Mexico City, he started his violin studies at the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma. In 1987, as winner of the Young Soloists Competition organized by the UNAM (National University of Mexico), he made his debut performing Mendelssohn's violin concerto in the Nezahualcoyotl Hall at the age of 14. In 1992, he received two scholarships, one from the Fulbright Foundation and other from FONCA to study for his Bachelor’s degree in Music at the University of Wisconsin and later he completed his Master’s Degree from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. He has appeared in major halls in the United States, Europe, Japan and Mexico. Currently he is a member of the string trio Ensemble Quercus. Since 1999 he is Professor of Violin at the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma.

Yoko Suzuki
Violinist and Violist
Photo: Yoko Suzuki Synopsis: She was born in Tokyo, Japan and started playing the violin when she was 3 years old. In 1986 and 1988 while still an elementary school pupil, she visited Mexico and performed at the Nezahualcoyotl Hall in the Mexico-Japan Friendship Concerts organized by the UNAM and the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma. She continued her studies at the Tokyo University of Music, where she received her Bachelor’s degree. Then she moved to Europe where she studied at the National Academy of Music "Franz Liszt" in Budapest, Hungary. She won various music competitions and has performed as soloist and gave recitals in Tokyo and other major Japanese cities, as well as in Hungary and in the Czech Republic. Since 2006 she gives violin and viola lessons at the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma.

Sebastian Kwapisz
Violinist
Photo: Sebastián Kwapisz Synopsis: Originally from Poland, he came to Mexico as a child, where he started his violin studies with his father, Professor Lech Kwapisz. He entered the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma at age 10, and was selected in 1985 to join the tour of Japan to participate in the “Mexico-Japan Friendship Concerts”. He later had teachers such as Pierre Amoyal and Mikhail Tolpygo. He has been soloist and concertmaster of the Carlos Chavez Symphony Orchestra, Queretaro Philharmonic, Camerata de Coahuila and presently of the OFUNAM (Philharmonic Orchestra of the National University). He has performed as soloist and gave recitals in France, Switzerland, Germany, Poland and Italy. In 2000 he was recipient of the Mozart Medal for his outstanding artistic activities. Since 2006 he teaches at the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma.

Bozena Slawinska
Violoncellist
Photo: Bozena Slawinska Synopsis: She was born in Elblag, Poland, where she began to study music. She graduated with honors from the F. Chopin Music Academy of Warsaw, and also has attended courses with M. Flacksman and A. Parisot. She was the winner of the Danczowski National Prize and the International Competition of Geneva, Switzerland (1979). She has played as a soloist with the leading orchestras of Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and other countries in Europe. She has been residing in Mexico for over 20 years, where she continues her activities as soloist and as a member of the concert artists’group “Concertistas de Bellas Artes”. She is the founder and director of the ensemble Cello Academia. In 1994 she created the Violoncello program of the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma and she currently supervises the program.

Barbara Kamiñska
Violoncellist
Photo: Bárbara Kamiñska Synopsis: She started her musical studies in the Music School of Katowice, Poland. In 1977 she won the First Prize in the Yearly Competition of the Polish Radio and Television. She later obtained her Master’s degree in Arts and the special certification as soloist and as teacher from the Gnessin Pedagogic Institute of Music in Moscow. She has performed with the State of Mexico Symphony as a soloist and has been a member of the Classical Trio of the University of Veracruz. Since 1989 she became a member of the Mexico City Philharmonic, and in 1999 she founded the ensemble Cello Academia with other cellists, performing in the leading concert halls in Mexico. She teaches the violoncello at the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma since 2003.

Composer, Professor of Music Theory, String Orchestra Conductor
Photo: Jorge Córdoba Synopsis: He was born in Mexico City. He did most of his studies at the National Music Conservatory. He studied composition and conducting in Spain, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, the United States and Hungary. His work The Divine Image was commissioned for the VI World Symposium of Choral Music held at Minneapolis, U.S., in 2002. He is currently the Assistant Director of CENIDIM and is a member of the Oversight Committee of the Directive Council of the Mexican Society of Authors and Composers . In 2005, he participated in the Japan tour as composer and conductor of the Mexico-Japan Friendship Orchestra. He has been member of the teaching staff since 2002.

Pilar Miñarro
Violoncellist, Pedagogue in Music Education
Photo: Pilar Miñarro Synopsis: Born in Torreon, Coahuila , Mexico, she started her formal education of music and violoncello at the University of Nuevo Leon and then graduated from the Southern Mississippi University with the highest honors in performance and Musical Education. She has performed in chamber music groups such as quartets, trios, cello ensembles and other groups and has taken several times advanced courses of music education methods. Starting in 2002 for 3 years she was member of the Camerata of Coahuila. Since 2006 she teaches Initiation to Music and theory at the Academia Yuriko Kuronuma.
